1932 Gregory Reunion

The Gregory Reunion--1932

Our Mother and Mary Ruth
In 1932 my mother's side of the family, the Gregorys, had a family reunion. The reunion was held at our home. There were about 45 or more people that attended. Almost all of our family was there. I was only about 6 years old and I am sitting on the banister. I remember it very well.
A few of the young boys were playing with a big rubber ball, tossing it back and forth and bouncing it. One of the throws was not actually aimed at my mother but it did hit her on the side of her forehead. It knocked her out cold for a few seconds. As she was falling she was telling the person near her, "Take me, take me!" Later on she said what she was trying to say was, "Take the baby, take the baby!" She was holding Mary Ruth at the time.
Someone did take the baby and luckily, neither the baby nor our mother was hurt. But it did cast a pall over the group and the ball playing stopped.
As I look at this picture now I am saddened because so many of those people are now deceased. At that time it was a very happy and joyful gathering. Many of the cousins and all of the uncles and aunts are now gone.
I am happy to have this picture to bring back all of my memories of that happy occasion!
Note: The family of my Aunt Lottie could not attend the reunion. So the family had a picture of Aunt Lottie and her family added on to the right end of the picture. It was not a very successful job by the photographer. Aunt Lottie's family all had on summer clothes and the reunion was held in the fall so all of the rest had on winter clothes.
